There are many titles that are promising something like this.
They promise to reveal a top secret or a magic pill.
And that will instantly let you have the network marketing business you are dreaming about.
Well, I have some good news and some bad news.
The bad news is that there is no such thing that will instantly give you the success you desire.
But the good news is that there is a secret that helped many people around the world.
With it, they achieved the results they haven’t even dreamed of.
And I believe it can help you too!
Many people are just searching the internet in order to find the secret, to get rich overnight.
Because getting rich is their vision of success.
They think riches will solve all their problems.
But in fact, they are just lazy.
When they are asking for the secret, what they are really saying is this:
“I am lazy.
Just give me the shortcut.
Tell me the secret!”
Well, I am glad that I can tell you that your search for the treasure has ended.
I will tell you the secret.
Be prepared, though, ’cause it may not be what you have expected it to be.
And the secret is this:
Build leaders!
You see how simple is that.
But simple does not mean easy, does it?
You see, implementing this secret would require you to learn some new skills.
Let me repeat that secret in a more descriptive way:
“To be successful in network marketing is to build leaders and help them become successful.”
The leaders in your network are how you actually measure your network marketing success.
You should by now understand that there are 2 kinds of people who join your business.
Customers and distributors.
You need to acquire the skill to separate the leaders from other distributors.
This may sound harsh now, but really it isn’t.
You will, with your NMB help your distributors to build their business and their goals.
And not all people have the same goals and the same definition of success.
So you will need to sort them out into three groups.
The first group:
These are people that have small goals and small beliefs about themselves and their business.
The second group:
It contains people who have big goals but have small beliefs about themselves and/or their businesses.
And of course, the third group.:
Those people have big goals and strong beliefs about themselves and their businesses.
Their goals sound petrifying to others that do not belong in the same group as they do.
Your job is to know to which group each and every distributor in your network belongs.
Why?
Because you only have a limited amount of time.
And if you waste it on someone who does not deserve it, you can figure out how your business will look like.
So if we would divide your time into all three groups, it should look something like this.
You will spend about 10-15% of your time to group one.
They are willing to work, and they need some of your time.
But to need and to deserve are two very different terms here.
The second group has potential but has to overcome some objections they have for themselves first.
You should help them do that as much as you can.
Just remember not to give them more than 20-30% of your time.
And finally, the leader’s group.
They need and deserve most of your time, and you should focus at least 60% of your time on those people.
I think you already understand why, but if not, just keep reading.
I will explain it in a moment.
You need to be able to sort people into those groups mentioned above.
First, you will need to define what your distributors want:
- Is it to save money on purchases?
- Is it to make retail profits?
- Is it the feeling of belonging?
- Is it a chance for personal development?
- Is it just some extra money to pay off bills or put a kid through college?
All those people with these and similar wishes belong to the first group.
They are “just” distributors.
They just “want to participate”, and try their luck.
They come and go, so you really cannot depend on them for your own business.
Consider them as some kind of freelancer, at least I think of them that way.
The second and the third group are very similar but with one major difference.
People from both groups want to build a big business and have big desires, wishes, and goals:
- Change their and other people’s lives
- Make their dreams come true
- Create a Legacy
- Make an impact
- Develop a better world
It’s just that the second group will need constant motivation.
You’ll be pushing and reminding them why they joined the network marketing business in the first place.
You will need to be their “fuel”.
When you are around, they will do ok.
But without you, they tend to lose focus and momentum.
On the other hand, the third group needs you just to be the firestarter.
They will become a flame on their own.
Network marketing works by deserving, not by needs.
So, give your time to those who deserve it, but do not fail to give everybody a chance to deserve your time.
The next logical step is to teach them to do the same.
Help them by going “live” with them.
Repeat that until they understand everything and are able to do the same for their people.
At the end of that period, they will know everything you do and even more.
Then they can begin working with their people the same way, building them to be even better than they are.
Now tell them to compare two scenarios, to test their intelligence:
Working hard for 2 years, and sponsoring dozens of distributors.
You are giving plenty of meetings, solving business and social problems…
And in the end, you’ll have to repeat the same process at least a few more times.
OR
You can develop a few leaders over those 2 years.
You all will become richer, happier, and more satisfied.
Then explain to them this:
It is the steady, slow, and focused work that builds a few leaders at a time.
They will really maximize the benefits of your network marketing career.
Next, you will want to check their sincerity.
You can’t afford to lose your precious time on “wanna-be” leaders.
You would want to be sure that they are serious and committed.
This next, simple question will do the job nicely.
“How do you feel about this business?”
Now they can offer an answer.
It will instantly put them inside one of the three groups mentioned before.
“Well, I will try…”
This is the weakest commitment.
Connected with the previous clues about this person will now put them in the first group.
“I will do the best I can.”
This one is a lot better.
Many of the best distributors will make this statement.
This gets this person into group two.
While it is much better, it’s still not enough to risk 3 or more months of daily mentoring.
“I will do whatever it takes!”
People who are potential leaders, that fall in the third group, will make this kind of commitment.
They understand that this is their personal effort.
That their effectiveness is what will make them successful or make them fail.
They will stay and learn from you until they can replicate all you do almost effortlessly.
When you are focused on your leaders, it changes how you build your business.
This means that you are changing your focus to helping leaders grow.
So no more “important” actions which can easily fill up your day.
You know that some networkers build leaders while others are just busy.
But to be able to use this network marketing secret, you must plan to find and build leaders obviously.
Before that, let’s clearly define what a leader is.
Because it is a lot easier to find them if you know what you are looking for.
A leader is a person who never complains on downline, upline, or company.
They have their own goals and are conducting regular local opportunity meeting even when you are away.
And are focused on setting a strong personal example and marching toward the ultimate business goal.
I mean, they are so, so much more.
But you are getting the idea of who they are now.
Let me describe them to you in three main sentences.
They have to be professional students of the business.
Do the business without your constant motivation and management.
And handle their problems, so they don’t filter up to you.
So how do you find leaders?
You don’t.
You grow them!
Want to know the best way to “know” their commitment level?
Don’t believe what people say, believe what they DO!
So how to test them?
You can say something like this:
“Stephen, I understand that you want to become a network marketing leader.
Here is a book that is really going to help you build your business.
Today is Monday, so why don’t we meet on Friday to discuss what’s in the book?
I will then show you how you can use those principles from the book in your business.”
When Friday comes, you give him a call.
Is Stephen ready, going all in, or not?
This is the test of true commitment.
Imagine that he cannot even put an effort to read a book.
What are the chances that he will put effort into something else, like filling seats at meetings?
And by the way, it does not matter what book you give them.
But if you wish to have a win-win situation, I suggest [BOOK NAME].
So do not invest your time and leadership training with distributors who don’t pass this simple test.
People want big business checks from network marketing.
But if they are not willing to invest the time and energy to learn the necessary skills to earn them…
Then they are not worth your time.
Now you know who are the potential leaders in your network marketing business.
What do you teach them?
You need to first teach them to be distributors.
But still, you only have a distributor, not a leader.
Distributors tend to become so busy that they fail to stop and think.
Often forgetting to plan exactly what they should be doing.
So then, what do you teach them to become leaders?
You teach them the real difference between network marketing leaders and distributors.
And that is HOW THEY THINK!
In every situation they can find themselves in, a leader will think differently than an average distributor.
Now, building your leaders starts by teaching them how to manage problems.
Write down all the everyday problems you encounter in your business.
For each problem describe what would represent leadership thinking.
And compare that to the average distributors thinking.
And teach your people with stories…
Lectures never work.
So write down any appropriate stories that you could say to your potential leader.
The goal is to have them adopt the leadership mindset.
You may be wondering why all of a sudden so much emphasis on the problems.
Because they reflect the way a person thinks.
They also rob you of your only limited asset, and that’s time.
When a distributor makes up his mind that a perceived problem prevents him from being successful, it will.
If you cannot fix the problem you just need to decide to be successful anyway!
This decision will determine your success.
So teach your new, potential leaders how to manage problems.
Otherwise, you won’t have any new leaders in your network marketing team.
Teach your new distributors that they have the power in their own minds to make that decision.
They can decide to be in the group of people who decides that the problem is bigger than their dreams.
Or they can join the group that decides that their dreams are larger than the problem.
It is up to them!
