Are you struggling to get appointments?
Imagine a good friend calling you and saying:
“Hi, good friend.”
Already you are feeling anxiety.
You hope they will not ask for money or help with moving the furniture.
Your good friend continues:
“I just joined a new business.
I can’t wait to show you.
I just need 30 minutes of your time.
When can we get together?”
Now, what is going on in the back of your mind?
You’re probably thinking, “I can’t give you 30 minutes.
I can’t even give you 30 seconds.“
And that is why it is an uphill struggle to get appointments.
You ask too much.
And this is the challenge you are given when you started.
And is a challenge you give to your newest distributors before they have learned a single skill.
So the first core skill you should teach your new distributors is rapport.
You can tell your new team members:
“It is okay to feel nervous about talking to people.
You haven’t learned what to say yet.”
This helps them relax as they feel they don’t have to know everything before they start.
Or you can tell your new team members:
“You can’t become a doctor or lawyer in six months.
It takes time to learn a new profession.
So don’t be discouraged during your learning time.
It will be okay once you have learned the new set of skills.”
This helps new members relax if they don’t find instant success.
Just imagine that when you joined, your mentor said:
“Most people think that they just need to work hard.
And if they do they should be able to master network marketing in just a few weeks.
The reality is that it takes about six months of daily practice.
If you think you should be able to do it in a few weeks, you’re just going to end up quitting.”
Unrealistic beliefs are not the right recipe for success.
To achieve success you need to form and proactively communicate realistic beliefs.
Like about how hard something is going to be.
Or how long on average it would take.
So give your new team members the right expectations.
That will prevent them from getting discouraged when things don’t go right immediately.
It does not matter if you teach them word commands, double facts, or even body language techniques.
You are doing them a service by helping them avoid rejection and get started fast.
Start with rapport!
