Word Are Power

Oh, you all think drugs kill?

Let me share something with you.

The number of people dying from diabetes is three times as many people dying, from drugs.

Yet if I drank Coca-Cola right now, nobody would say anything.

On the other hand, do you know that the leading cause of liver cancer Is not actually alcohol?

It’s your DNA.

You could drink for years and nothing will ever happen to you.

The whole conflict against alcohol is just to restrict fun.

I’ve used these arguments, even though I just made them up, with a group of people I know.

And the results?

Five of them believed what I said.

Two of them even started planning to drink more often!

WORDS, when said and articulated in the right way can change someone’s mind.

They can alter someone’s belief.

You have the power to bring someone from living in the sewers and make a successful person out of them…

Or crush someone’s joy.

Using only your words!

Does that seem a bit too good to be true?

A simple choice of words makes the whole difference between accepting or rejecting your message.

You can have a very important thing to say, but say it using the wrong words and it’s gone.

BIG BOY

My friend has a son who’s four and he had this bad habit of leaving LEGOs all around the house.

And one day, he says, “I am looking at him and he’s going at it.

Just going around the house and spreading LEGOs everywhere.

And he said to him:

Hey, are you stupid?

Don’t you ever do that again!

And you can guess what happened, right?

His son was at it again.

Because no one likes to be threatened.

Nobody likes to be intimidated.

His pride would not allow it.

The kid did it again just to spite him.

I had a small chat with my friend on that matter.

A week later, he came home from work, and his son was on it again.

And this time he was even looking at me,” my friend says.

Remembering what you said, I sat down on the floor to be on his level.

I said, Son, please come here.

Don’t do that.

You’re a big boy now.”

What happened you wonder?

His son never did it again because his pride did not allow it.

He wanted to be the big boy.

THE TRUTH

Have you ever wondered why nobody cares about global warming?

Even though it’s a very serious issue and it could kill all of us.

Could it be because a scientist is trying to talk about global warming?

It goes something like this:

“Ladies and gentlemen, as you can see from the graph here for 2018.

It shows the water level is rising.

This table here shows that the mono-dioxide level and the third ozone layer are at an alarming position…”

The message never gets across.

But the contrary is true as well.

If you are a person who’s a role model, admired, and respected, anything you say could be believed.

Anything you utter could be taken as truth.

Look at me for example.

I loved my father.

You could even say I idolized him.

Would have done anything to make him happy.

See him smile.

But he was the kind of person who’s not easy to impress.

And year after year, I tried.

And my father was distant as ever.

In my first year in college, I got straight A’s.

I thought this is it.

This is what will finally make my dad proud.

I dialed up the phone.

Hey, Dad.

I got straight A’s.

Are you proud?

Please tell me you’re proud, father.

Yeah, listen, son, we will talk later.

I’m busy now.”

I’M BUSY!

That was the single sentence that broke me.

I started losing myself.

Closing in.

My girlfriend at the time would ask me:

Why Stephen, why are you throwing your life away?

Why have you given up on everything?

I was thinking, and more importantly, feeling empty.

If that one person that I needed the most doesn’t care, why should I?

And then one night after a long time, I had a dream.

I was looking at my lifeless body in the hospital bed.

I saw myself on that bed hearing the machine go beep, beeep, beeeeeeep.

Doctors were trying to bring me back to life.

Clear!

Again. Clear!

One more time – Clear…

It was clear that a single word had ruined my life.

It was clear one could lift me up as well.

Do not be mistaken.

Words have power.

Words are power.

Words could be your power.

You can change a life.

Inspire a nation.

Make this world a beautiful place!

Isn’t that what we all want?

Isn’t that why we are all in this thing called life?

Your mouth can either spit venom or it can mend a broken soul!

Dear reader, let mending people’s souls be your goal starting now.
